Tree and Shrub Planting

Planting:

Plant in a wide, rough sided or square hole. If tree is bare root, spread out the roots so they will grow into the surrounding soil. Do not plant bare root or trees in pots any deeper than their root flare. Back fill with the same soil that was removed from the hole, (do not use different soil to fill the hole). When hole is filled, water deeply to remove any air pockets in the soil, (water until the soil stops bubbling). Sprinkle an organic fertilizer around the root ball area. Add one inch of compost topped with 4 inches of a course mulch, (do not let the mulch touch the trunk of the tree). Do not take, wrap or cut back the top of the tree. Keep the root zone covered with mulch.

Care:

First growing season: Liquid seaweed as a soil drench around the root zone, (mix 1 ounce per gallon of water) I recommend doing this every third watering.

Watering: Watering depends on the type of tree and the weather conditions. Consult a nursery professional.

Fertilizing: Never use chemical fertilizers. Normally when your fertilizer your landscape this is sufficient for your trees.
